An exploration of gender in STEM workplaces by the numbers.
In summer 2017, a Google internal memo decrying the company's diversity programs brought a spotlight to the roles gender can play in the tech industry. The memo claimed that biological differences between men and women contribute to the differences in their work experiences, but data has shown that women in STEM fields can suffer from discrimination of all kinds in the workplace. Using information gathered by the Pew Research Center, I created data visualizations showing the gendered experiences of women employed in STEM fields, with a focus on women in computer jobs.
